By definition, the word “crisis” implies a single moment in time. You experience a crisis, and then you move past it. Unfortunately for June Shannon, her crisis has been going on since 2020. In a sneak peek of Mama June: Family Crisis Season 7, we see that things aren’t looking up in 2025.
Last time we saw this family, they were navigating the loss of June’s oldest daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell. This season, the cameras are following the family as they enter their next, messy chapter. They’re facing a custody battle, marital troubles, and a missing $35,000.
Mama June is back for 2025 with Family Crisis
As a reminder, this show used to be called Mama June: From Not to Hot. Originally a feel-good show about Mama June undergoing weight loss surgery, the positive vibes didn’t last long. Drug addiction spiraled June’s life out of control, and the We TV cameras eagerly followed along as the family tried to rebound. Thus, the name Mama June: Family Crisis was born.
In Season 7, the drama isn’t quite as serious, but it’s still pretty wild. The teaser kicked off showing Mama June and Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson at odds over stolen money. Allegedly, June helped herself $35,000 out of the Bank of Honey Boo. Now, Alana is demanding that her mom pay her back. However, her mom is too busy doing semaglutide injections and trying to embark on another weight loss journey.
On top of that, the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo matriarch is fighting for custody of Anna’s child after being sued by her ex. This man is not even the father of Anna’s child, but he wants to yank the baby away from its grandma. It’s a mess.
Meanwhile, Alana is entering her second year of nursing school. For the most part, she seems to have her head on straight, which is miraculous considering how long she has been in the public eye. Her biggest concerns are passing her classes and helping her boyfriend navigate his legal troubles. $35,000 would probably help at least one of those causes.
Last but not least, there’s Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, who is also returning this season with a crisis of her own. She launched an online business, which is eating away at all of her time. At home, she’s dealing with a strained relationship with her husband. He sleeps on the couch every night, and she said their marriage felt more like the dynamic of “roommates.” That’s never a good sign.
So, you’ve got Honey Boo Boo all grown up, Mama June caught up in a custody battle, and Pumpkin trying to stay sane throughout the chaos. This is the perfect show if you need a break from your own messy life.
Mama June: Family Crisis returns Friday, May 30 at 8/7c on We TV.
