The relationship between Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor has been anything but a fairytale. The former Hooters girl (willingly) left her life in Kentucky behind to move to Los Angeles in hopes of making a relationship work. All Brittany got for her troubles was a boob job and a headache. Being married to Jax has been anything but a walk in the park. Now, The Valley star is opening up about some of the worst times she had with her husband.

Jax Taylor’s anger got the best of him on The Valley

In The Valley Season 2 premiere, Jax lost his ever-loving mind as fans watched him accuse Brittany of cheating on him. No matter how hard she tried to explain that it wasn’t the case, the father of one became angrier and angrier. It had only been nine months since the couple separated, but Jax admitted to cameras, “It’s not going well. She’s in a rental, and we’re allowed to date other people. I mean, it’s so toxic. It’s so broken.” Jax seemed contrite while speaking with Jesse Lally. At the time of filming, he noted, “I really want to work on our marriage.”

In a separate confessional, Brittany told fans, “I thought that we might be heading in the right direction and be able to work on our marriage, but then all hell broke loose. That completely changed everything.” Brittany explained that Jax had found nude photos that she had sent to their friend Julian. She then shared, “He flipped the coffee table and it hit my knee. It turned black immediately. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God.’ I’m like, screaming crying. It was terrifying.”

Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor have had better days

Recently, the 45-year-old has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder after another stay in a rehab facility. And while Jax shared with The Valley fans that he “cried” after being given the news, Brittany took the The Valley: After Show to explain. The mother of one suggested that Jax had been given the diagnosis before, but refused to take his medicine. According to Brittany, she alleged he “came back saying that they told him he was bipolar, then, too. That prescription sat in my junk drawer, and he never got it filled. Me and his sister would beg him and beg him, ‘Please just try,’ and he never got it filled.”

Brittany shared that before Jax got help, their day-to-day interactions were a struggle. “I will say that I can tolerate him around, whenever we’re doing different things, a little bit more, I don’t have to worry about after he’s out on a bender because those were the worst days ever, the next day, the come down was just so incredibly bad” Brittany shared. She tried to rationalize what she had gone through, adding, “So it’s not that intense maybe, but he’ll be fine one day and then screaming at me about who I’m dating. It’s very, very up and down.”

Jax Taylor might have cried wolf too many times

Jax took part in his own after-show interview, where he admitted that he had seen a doctor a year before his 2024 rehab stay. And while Jax said the professional did note “something was wrong,” the father of one doubled down, insisting he was never given a bipolar diagnosis. Jax told cameras, “It was depression, and I didn’t get the prescription filled — the first time. Then I got the prescription filled the second time with Lexapro, and I took it for about two and a half weeks.” The former Vanderpump Rules bartender then noted that he told the doctors that the depression medicine wasn’t working for him.

He told cameras, “And they’re like, ‘Well, you’re not depressed. I cried my eyes out when they told me what was wrong. ‘You’re clearly bipolar. You should be on medication.’ And it was just like, ‘Thank you God, finally I found something that I can take that’s gonna fix this f*cking problem.’” According to Jax, he “needed the medication, and I’m glad I’m on it. I don’t have blowups anymore at all.” But some, like Zack Wickham, aren’t buying his claims. Zack noted, “He’s been diagnosed with that before. That’s not an epiphany.” Even Lala Kent had something to say, adding that his constant rage texts indicate that nothing has changed.

The Valley is available to stream on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
