Kristin Cavallari often makes headlines. The public is more than interested to hear about her dating life. This past week, the Honestly Cavallari star admitted to a brief dalliance with Craig Conover that had “overlapped” his three-year relationship with Paige DeSorbo.
But the podcast host and entrepreneur also spoke about family relations this week. She shifted the focus to the estranged relationship she has with her father Dennis Cavallari. And unfortunately, the conflict has also strained the relationship between Kristin’s father and her children.
Kristin Cavallari’s dad crossed the line with her kids
Kristin told Page Six Radio that Dennis allegedly “crossed the line” with her three children. She shares sons Camden Jack, 12, and Jaxon Wyatt, 11, and daughter Saylor James, 9, with ex-husband Jay Cutler.
“A lot of stuff has gone on with my dad. He’s crossed the line with my kids, and those are dealbreakers for me,” she explained.
In addition to the offense itself, Kristin said that she does not feel that her father took “accountability” for the situation when confronted.
“Like, if I hurt your feelings, and I come to you, you just want me to be like, ‘You know what? I am really sorry,'” she said. “Not be like, ‘Well, here’s why I did it.’ I don’t want you to defend yourself; just tell me you’re sorry and acknowledge it. It’s really difficult for a lot of people.”
Kristin continued, “And when you cross a boundary like my dad did and you can’t just take some accountability, well, I can’t have you in my life then.”
Those in Kristin’s life that know “what happened” in the “relationship” with Dennis also know not to broach the subject with her. And she addressed followers online that offer unsolicited advice about reconciliation.
“People on the internet don’t understand, but they don’t need to understand. It’s not their life,” she made sure to note, arguing that if they did know the full story, they wouldn’t be saying things like, “You should really try,” she stated.
Kristin and Dennis have had conflict for years
The Let’s Be Honest podcast host doubled-down on there being “no” chance of mending fences. Kristin stated, “he’s out of my life forever.” And that’s “the best decision” of her life. Though, she admits it “might sound messed up to some people.”
“I’m a mother. If my kid was like, ‘Hey, I don’t want you in my life,’ I would do everything to make sure I was gonna be in that kid’s life. Like, I can’t even imagine as a parent being like, ‘OK, bye!’” she said on a recent episode of her podcast.
Kristin added, “Such a weight has been lifted from me. There’s not one day where I miss him. I don’t know if it was two or three years ago, but I mean, I was an adult. Let’s say I was 35. It was 35 years of buildup to that point.”
Conflict with Dennis, whom Kristin labeled a “narcissist” has been ongoing for years. But cutting him off “was something that [she] had been wanting to do for a long time.” She couldn’t accept a situation where her children were involved and her father “couldn’t even apologize.”
“Like, you’re just gaslighting me,” she explained of the reason for cutting Dennis out of her life. “I don’t have time for that anymore. If someone’s not bringing you joy — if people are only bringing you hurt and sadness and anger — what is the point? Even if it’s a parent, life’s too short.”
