Since leaving the Real Housewives of Atlanta, Kandi Burruss’ career has been on fire. She and husband Todd Tucker are making a name for themselves as Broadway producers.
After stepping away from the ATL, the couple have co-produced The Piano Lesson, Othello, and The Wiz (now in pre-production). They have also been nominated for a Tony Award.
When Kandi decided to turn in her peach, she absolutely made the right decision. Rumor has it, Kandi wants an EGOT, and she just might get it.
Kandi continues to hope RHOA is a success
“I’m feeling extremely blessed,” the 2000 Grammy Award winner told The Hollywood Reporter. “I was on the [Real] Housewives of Atlanta for 14 seasons. That’s a very long time and to make the decision to step away was really hard. But I’m glad that I’ve been able to do all the other things that I’ve been doing in this past year, to be honest with you.”
Kandi’s latest project, Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, broke records even before its official Broadway premiere. In it’s second week of previews, the show earned $2.8 million. Breaking all attendance records, the revival of Othello moved into the top spot as the highest-grossing production in Broadway history.
“For us to break records and make history,” Kandi continued, “that was kind of, like, one of those things that told me, ‘Girl, you’re doing the right thing!'”
“I’ve been on a lot of different shows,” she added. “My daughter [Riley Burruss] just started her own new show, [Next Gen NYC], on Bravo.”
Actually, Kandi’s so busy, she has make a conscious effort to balance her work life with her home life. Kandy and her husband Todd still have two small children at home: Ace, 9, and Blaze, 3.
“It’s a lot to juggle,” Kandi explained. “Housewives was taking up a LOT of my time.”
But she knew the show would continue just fine without her, and she wants all her “girls” to do well. In the meantime, Kandi’s doing “just fine” herself.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo. It streams in the UK and Ireland on Hayu.
