90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Season 9 is officially on the way. This season will feature eight different couples, who have all appeared in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise at some point. While there were several fan favorite couples that could’ve been cast on Season 9, the production instead chose to cast numerous controversial couples. Happily Ever After? Season 9 is in danger of becoming a failing season, here are our thoughts.
Happily Ever After? Season 9 features boring and controversial couples

The main concern for Season 9 potentially failing is the casting. Of the eight couples cast for this season, the majority of them are either controversial or haven’t had particularly compelling stories in the past.
Two of the most controversial casting picks for Season 9 are Darcey Silva and Georgi Rusev. Darcey and Georgi are currently married but have had an on-and-off again relationship. While Georgi isn’t super controversial on his own, viewers have mixed opinions on Darcey as this is her third relationship portrayed on the franchise. Another controversial choice are Loren Brovarnik and Alexei Brovarnik, who have rubbed many fans the wrong way with their political opinions.
In addition to controversial couples, Season 9 also features several couples with historically boring story lines. Kara Rojer and Guillermo Rojer were introduced on 90 Day Fiancé Season 9, where their story was pretty typical. The Happily Ever After? trailer teases them exploring life after having a baby, which isn’t terribly exciting either. Another returning couple are Jovi Dufren and Yara Zaya. Despite appearing on multiple seasons, Jovi and Yara’s story lines have always been repetitive and will likely continue doing so.
One couple from Happily Ever After? Season 9 has already split

One of the most frustrating aspects about the upcoming season is that one of the couples is no longer together. Gino Palazzolo and Jasmine Pineda have been cast for their sixth season, although it will be their first season since their breakup. The trailer shows Gino exploring his side of his open marriage with Jasmine by hanging out with a new woman. Jasmine, on the other hand, is shown moving in with her friend Matt Branistareanu, who was her partner in the open marriage.
This is a frustrating addition to the season for two main reasons. First, fans already know that Gino and Jasmine have split. This was also clearly filmed prior to Jasmine and Matt having a baby together, so everyone already knows exactly how the story ends up. As a result, this somewhat takes the fun out of watching. On the other hand, with two different stories for the same couple, Gino and Jasmine will likely get more screen time than anyone else. Despite viewers calling for Gino and Jasmine to stop being cast, producers are continuing to film them every chance they get.
Happily Ever After? Season 9 will feature a new format that could potentially backfire

One of the strangest things in the trailer was the reveal that at least three couples this season will have intertwined story lines. Loren and Alexei, Jovi and Yara, and Elizabeth Castravet and Andrei Castravet all filmed at least several scenes together. It’s not clear if they will have their individual stories as well, but it’s fair to say that a good amount of their screen time will be shared.
This is an odd addition as it takes away from each couples individual stories. Instead, the focus is put on drama that comes from them mingling. For instance, the trailer shows Elizabeth getting angry with Alexei, which is typically something that would be saved for the Tell All. Certain couples mingling while others are filmed on their own could potentially give the season a weird vibe. This has never been done before, so hopefully production doesn’t push this agenda too hard to the point where it becomes hard to watch. A few scenes together could work, but not for the entire season.
