Season 12 of Below Deck has started and there’s already issues on the boat. It’s no secret that Captain Kerry Titheradge runs a tight ship and expects a level of excellence. Which is why, if bosun Caio Poltronieri doesn’t get his act together, he could be the next one to depart the St. David.
We’re only a couple of episodes in and the Below Deck trailer promises a lot of exciting shenanigans on the way. With a five day charter, the crew has to keep things efficient and Caio is currently not operating up to par. So much so that Captain Kerry called him to the wheelhouse for a sit down.
Below Deck Season 12 sees Caio making “schoolboy errors”
“I try to support my guys, but I have a lot of pressure on myself. I’ve gotta be straight up with the guy and let him know how important his job is and how much I rely on him,” Captain Kerry explained. “There’s a lot of schoolboy errors being made on things he should already be aware of. He needs to get his head in the game.”
Captain Kerry unpacked several things he had issues with including guests’ luggage not making it aboard the first charter and Caio having no idea. He also told Caio about being careful to relay correct information after a snorkeling site miscommunication made the captain “look like a clown” to the guests. This just wouldn’t do.
“We’ve gotta have communication on point,” Captain Kerry reiterated. “It’s not my job to think about everyone’s job. But things keep piling up. I need to know if you’re up for this.”
“I’m pretty sure I’m up for it,” Caio answered (not very confident). He is in charge of the deckhands and mentioned that having “three people under him” was a bit of a challenge but he said he would improve his performance.
This isn’t the first issue on the boat. Captain Kerry was also peeved about not having his uniform ready and having to wait in a towel while Chief Stew Fraser Olender sorted it out.
And now Kerry is leaning on Caio to ensure his team doesn’t make mistakes. In a confessional he admitted, “I think Caio is in over his head. If he doesn’t meet expectations, he’s gone.”
Looks like Caio has a lot to prove this season. And he’s not the only one. Chef Anthony Iracane is also back for Season 12 and looking for a redemption arc. Hopefully they both rise to the task.
Below Deck airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo. It streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
