As a regular viewer of both Vanderpump Rules and America’s Got Talent, I’m not thrilled to see Tom Sandoval return. But apparently there are people who can look at him without feeling their skin crawl.
In a sneak peek for the June 24 episode, Tom and his cover band, The Most Extras, try to keep the dream alive by auditioning for AGT. They did a decent job with the 1980s earworm, Take on Me by a-ha.
Though judge Simon Cowell had a big smile on his face, the clip doesn’t reveal how the other judges reacted. But one TV personality got a big kick out of Tom’s performance. Too bad he’s not a judge on AGT.
Steve Howey found Tom Sandoval’s AGT audition “adorable”
Introducing himself to the judges, Tom admitted, “My name is Tom Sandoval. I was the most hated man in America,” he said, in reference to the Pump Rules the cheating scandal nicknamed Scandoval. “This is the chance to show who I am as a musician.”
Though judge Sophia Vergara appeared unimpressed, especially after Howie Mandel explained who he was, nobody booed him off the stage.
Even Reba star Steve Howey loved him. He took to the comments section of Peacock’s Instagram post to write, “adorable lol.” Subsequently, several commenters wondered if Steve was a fan of VPR and/or AGT. Does he know the backstory?
Since the discovery that Tom had been cheating on his girlfriend, Ariana Madix, with their friend Rachel Leviss, he’s been something of a pariah in the Bravo world. In the past couple of years, Tom’s tried to win back fans with appearances on other shows. He guested on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, The Masked Singer and The Traitors.
It’s been two years since Scandoval first broke, and the backlash has been tough on Tom. He and buddy Tom Schwartz lost their business, Schwartz and Sandy’s bar.
Though he’s expressed remorse for his actions, Tom really wishes everyone would just “move on.” As he told Us Weekly, “Ariana has moved on, I’ve moved on, we’re all moving on.”
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and streams the following day on Peacock.
