Trigger Warning: This article contains discussion of domestic violence.
Season 7 Love Island USA contestant Huda Mustafa was a controversial figure on the show. Some fans felt like she behaved in a controlling way towards her first partner, Jeremiah Brown. Meanwhile, others called out her directness and honesty.
It finally looked like Huda had found her match in basketball pro Chris Seeley. However, tensions began to escalate, resulting in Huda breaking up with him the night before the finale. Apparently, there were signs that viewers weren’t privy to that explained why Huda bounced. Now, Huda is opening up about her troubled childhood.
Love Island USA’s Huda says she and her family suffered due to her father
Recently, Huda was a guest on Alex Cooper’s podcast, Call Her Daddy. Huda, who was the youngest of five children, revealed, “Growing up, my dad was extremely abusive. He was very abusive towards my mother, towards me, and my siblings.” Then Huda discussed a troubling, violent incident between her father and her mother.
However, when Huda was in the fourth grade, her mother left her dad. “My mom, I remember when my dad was at work, we packed up everything and we left,” the Love Islander stated. As for Huda’s relationship with her father now? She severed their relationship and hasn’t spoken to him in eight years.
Even more disturbing are some of Huda’s personal allegations. “There was a lot of times when I was alone with my dad, and there’s things that, like, my family doesn’t believe me about. Maybe it’s hard to believe,” Huda said. Knowing more about Huda’s history explains why she refused to tolerate certain behaviors from Chris, like not being complimented and reportedly being told to be quiet. Props to Huda for speaking out and bravely sharing her traumatic experiences.
