Dancing with the Stars alum Mark Ballas returned to the ballroom for Season 31. Mark had been absent from the series for five years, so his return was a wonderful surprise. He took home the Mirrorball with his partner, Charli D’Amelio.
However, he announced during the DWTS tour that he was retiring from this dancing platform. “I’m not saying this is the end, [but] this is the last time I will be dancing with a [celebrity] partner,” Mark stated. He performed his final dance with Charli, with their families in the audience. I was so sad to hear that bittersweet news.
Will DWTS welcome back Mark Ballas in 2025?
However, during Season 33, Mark returned to the ballroom in a different capacity. He joined Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba as a guest judge. The three-time Mirrorball champ killed it with incredible feedback and advice.
Recently, Mark and Jenna Johnson shared a video via Instagram. In the clip, they performed a sizzling Latin routine. “Going back to basics is not a step backward. It’s often the first step to progress,” Mark captioned the video. Of course, the surprise collaboration garnered a lot of comments. “Yeah you two are really good at dancing…” Joey Graziadei, who took home the Mirrorball with Jenna last season, wrote.
One fan commented, “Would love to see Mark on this season.” Then Mark’s father, Corky Ballas, chimed in, “u never know,” along with laughing emojis. While fans immediately speculated that meant that Mark would be a pro on Season 34, I think it is more likely that he will be a guest judge again.
If we are lucky, maybe he will dance this season in a special performance, like his Argentine Tango with Derek during Season 33. Plus, Mark just wrapped Season 4 of The Traitors, so we will see him on our screens in the future.
Dancing with the Stars Season 34 will premiere on Tuesday, September 16, at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It will stream on Hulu the next day.
