Teddi Mellencamp has been fighting melanoma since 2022. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum revealed earlier this year that the cancer reached stage 4 and spread to her brain and lungs. Even with such serious news, she has stayed open about her treatment and keeps her sense of humor whenever she can.
Katie Thurston, a Bachelorette alum, got tough news in March. Her breast cancer spread to her liver, also putting her at stage 4. She married comedian Jeff Arcuri earlier this year and has been balancing treatment while adjusting to newlywed life.
The two reality stars recently came together and got candid about what they’ve been going through.
Teddi Mellencamp and Katie Thurston got real about their health battles
On yesterday’s episode of Teddi’s podcast, Two Ts In A Pod, Katie shared the parts of treatment nobody really talks about, including how it’s affected her body. One thing she experienced was medically induced menopause due to hormone-blocking medications. “It’s like there’s just so much changes with my body, especially with menopause,” she said. “Like things are not the same down there, and that’s something I’m still trying to figure out what to do.”
She also joked about intimacy struggles. “To be honest, sorry, Jeff, I don’t know the last time we had sex right now,” she said.
Teddi laughed, replying, “There’s times where I feel very sexual … there are times where I’m like I can’t even imagine going on a date right now.”
Katie mentioned that Jeff has been extra careful. “And then of course [Jeff’s] very sensitive like, ‘I don’t want to hurt you,’” she shared.
The discussion then shifted to the topic of beauty and perspective. “It’s so beautiful to be alive versus like to be skinny or to be pretty,” Katie said. “I care less about cellulite or weight gain or whatever because every day I’m just happy to be here now.”
Teddi admitted she can be hard on herself, especially on camera, so she’s working on being kinder to herself. “I have to have that conversation like, ‘Teddi, you’re there, you’re working, you’re doing the best that you can, you’re beautiful,’” she shared.
Unfortunately, so many people can relate to what Teddi and Katie are going through, but their honesty and willingness to have the conversation could help others facing similar struggles.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills streams on Peacock and Hayu in the U.K. and Ireland. The Bachelorette streams on Hulu.
