Yungblud Talks Ozzy Osbourne VMAs Tribute and Love for Late ‘North Star’

They say you should never meet your heroes. But somehow we doubt Yungblud would agree. The pop rocker opened up about his affection for Ozzy Osbourne at the VMAs, where he took part in a performance to honor the late metal legend.

Yungblud has always had a lot of love for Ozzy Osbourne

Yungblud wasn’t just making waves for his revealing outfit choice at the VMAs. The musician paid tribute to his hero Ozzy Osbourne at the awards with a performance that honored the late rock legend. He joined Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, to perform a medley of Ozzy’s greatest hits.

Speaking to Extra at the awards, he said he idolized Ozzy growing up as their pair hail from the same region in England. He explained: “He’s always been my North Star. I think, like, coming from the North of England and loving rock music and rock and roll music and metal music since I was two years old, I think like Ozzy was the first character I had on my wall.

“You know, before you even listen to music, you see these superheroes, and Ozzy was that. I was always mental and crazy and wild, and he did that and gave me hope, man, to, like, get accepted … in the big, bad world.”

Ozzy grew up in Birmingham, while Yungblud is from Doncaster.

Ozzy was famously proud of his northern roots. Which is probably why daughter Kelly Osbourne reacted so strongly when Becky Lynch slammed his hometown.

Yungblud also remembered the first time he met the Black Sabbath frontman. And there was a snack involved. He said: “[He] actually made me a salami sandwich first time I met him. Telling you, man, pulled a knife out of his coat and cut the bread and then put some salami in it and we shared a sandwich. It was cute, man. Wholesome.”
