Bronwyn Newport vs. Lisa Barlow emerged as the standout feud of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 6. The RHOSLC ladies’ relationship drastically changed since Lisa initially described Bronwyn as “everything you could want in a friend” in Season 5. By last year’s reunion, they were sworn enemies. And things are only getting worse. Plus, based on their various comments about each other in interviews, we’re likely not getting a scene where they make up this season. But which RHOSLC star is winning the feud so far? And who might ultimately emerge victorious?
Why Bronwyn Newport might come out on top in her RHOSLC Season 6 feud with Lisa Barlow
From a certain angle, Bronwyn is the underdog in this feud. Lisa is a legendary Real Housewives fighter at this point. And Lisa dealt a major blow to Bronwyn’s reputation at the RHOSLC Season 5 reunion. Baby Gorgeous exposed that Bronwyn lied about buying that 4 million dollar necklace. Lisa accused her co-star of being a pathological liar, and the fans who don’t like Bronwyn agreed. But Bronwyn owned up to the lie in the premiere. And by the time of her first interaction with Lisa since the reunion, she came prepared.
Bronwyn held her own against Lisa in their first face-to-face fight of RHOSLC Season 6
From my point of view, Bronwyn actually won the fight with Lisa in RHOSLC Season 6 Episode 2. But even if you think Lisa won, or that it was a draw, Bronwyn held her own. She is not intimidated by Lisa anymore.
Throughout their fight, Lisa threw out every insult she could think of at Bronwyn. She called her “gout d*ck s*cker,” mocked the way Bronwyn nods her head, brought up Bronwyn’s marriage confession from last season, and more. However, Bronwyn shut every insult down. She even told Lisa that making fun of her won’t fix those lawsuits.
When Lisa told Bronwyn to go to school, she replied “You should really go to work to pay off those lawsuits.” For a moment, Lisa seemed at a loss for words. While she technically had the last word, Lisa was thrown off and ran out of her usually snappy insults. She just called an unbothered Bronwyn a “pig.”
If nothing else, Bronwyn established herself as a formidable opponent who won’t back down. If this fight was round one in the feud, I’d say Bronwyn took it.
Bronwyn did her research (and the RHOSLC editors show it)
Bronwyn’s biggest tools against Lisa are those pesky lawsuits. And she clearly read them very, very carefully. To the point where she can quote certain claims directly. Apparently, Bronwyn didn’t want to go into battle with Baby Gorgeous unprepared.
The RHOSLC production team also carefully read these lawsuits. Every time Bronwyn quoted or referenced something, editors would cut to a highlighted passage of the documents that backed her up. Of course, we don’t know if any of the claims in the lawsuits are true. But when Lisa said something wasn’t in a lawsuit, editors disputed her to show that it was.
Lisa’s apparent feelings of superiority might come back to bite her
Despite her loyalty to Lisa, Heather Gay called out Baby Gorgeous’ elitism two episodes in a row. First, when Lisa skipped the cast trip. And in the second episode, Lisa claimed she lives a different life than the other RHOSLC ladies. Lisa has a very high opinion of herself, which is one of her defining traits as a Housewife.
But as admirable as that level of confidence is, does Lisa think she’s better than her co-stars? Because that type of attitude may turn them against her. On the premiere trip, several cast members claimed Lisa holds herself to a different standard. If this resentment towards Lisa’s apparent entitlement grows, Bronwyn could use it to her advantage and get more cast members on her side.
Why Lisa Barlow might best Bronwyn in their feud
Let’s not forget, Lisa Barlow became an iconic Real Housewife for a reason. And in the Real Housewives fan base, there are a lot of people who will ride for her no matter what. In one fight with Bronwyn, Lisa had multiple moments deemed iconic. I imagine merch with some of her quotes, like “You’re dismissed,” “She’s loitering,” and “You gout d*ck sucker!” is already in the works. However, Bronwyn is a more divisive Housewife, amongst both the fan base and the cast. Lisa’s larger popularity may not be the only reason she could ultimately win the feud.
Bronwyn’s past can be used against her
While she’s laser focused on Lisa’s lawsuits, Bronwyn allegedly had her own legal woes. On Watch What Happens Live, Bronwyn was asked about rumored charges of grand theft auto and identity theft. Bronwyn promised this will be addressed on the show. She said it’s something from her past, over ten years ago, and that it’s been sealed. Also, she claimed it’s not as serious as the other women say.
We’ll have to wait and find out more details. But, at the very least, it means that Bronwyn could get deemed a hypocrite.
Lisa has more support in the RHOSLC cast
Despite what she said on their lunch date, Heather isn’t the only one who has Lisa’s back like a real sister. When the lawsuits came up on the cast trip, Meredith Marks and Britani Bateman defended Lisa as well. Bronwyn is newer to the group, and doesn’t have the history or super close relationships that Lisa does. For instance, even though they fight often, it isn’t out of the cards for Lisa to make up with Whitney Rose or Angie Katsanevas. This provides Lisa with a big advantage in the group and in regards to her and Bronwyn’s feud.
Is Bronwyn too consumed with taking down Lisa?
Lisa might accuse Bronwyn of being obsessed with her. While Lisa wasn’t in the premiere, she was the main topic of conversation. And during Whitney and Bronwyn’s bonding scene in the second episode, they mostly talked about, who else, Lisa.
Lisa might also argue that her rivals in the cast are consumed with taking her down. We’ve already seen how Real Housewives piling on one another can seriously backfire.
Basically, Lisa still seems to be the main character in RHOSLC Season 6. Is that enough to give her an advantage in the feud with Bronwyn? We’ll have to watch to find out.
