Prince Harry and Prince William may be estranged, but when Harry thinks someone’s going after his big brother, he’s ready to defend him. Harry’s lawyers believe that William and his wife Kate Middleton were targeted by the Daily Mail. Furthermore, he claims that private investigators used unlawful means to obtain their information.
On October 1, Harry’s team presented the claim to the High Court in London. During a preliminary hearing, the Duke of Sussex’s representatives brought the case against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL). ANL publishes the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.
Prince Harry is just one of seven claimants suing the publisher over alleged breaches of privacy, dating back 30 years. Some of the other parties in the lawsuit include Sir Elton John, his husband David Furnish and actress Elizabeth Hurley. ANL, which also publishes the Mail on Sunday and the MailOnline, denies any wrongdoing, saying the “lurid” claims are preposterous.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were allegedly targeted by the Daily Mail, according to Prince Harry

According to Reuters, on October 1, lawyers for both sides argued over which allegations should be included in the suit. For the first time, Harry’s legal team alleged the Mail was involved in targeting the Prince and Princess of Wales. They claimed that details about William’s 21st birthday party in 2003 were obtained through deception. Kate was also allegedly targeted by a private investigator working for a Mail journalist.
In previous cases, William and Kate’s attorneys have claimed their mobile phones were hacked by journalists. William already privately settled with Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers (NGN).
The claimants are accusing ANL of activities such as hacking their voicemails, burglary, and obtaining their medical records by deception. David Furnish was among several of the claimants who attended court on Wednesday, while Harry listened remotely.
Over the past six years, Harry has engaged in open warfare with the British tabloids. He believes senior editors are authorizing unlawful intrusions into people’s lives, destroying friendships and relationships.
It’s common knowledge that the Prince blames the press for the death of his mother, Princess Diana. The beloved princess died in a Paris car crash in 1997, while attempting to elude a pack of paparazzi.
The case is expected to go to trial sometime in early 2026.
