Mary Cosby Reveals Why ‘Had To Take a Step Back’ From RHOSLC After Season 2

Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has yet to be topped when it comes to the sheer level of chaos. Those women had to endure an FBI takedown, Club Zion, and a racism scandal. Meanwhile, Mary Cosby was dodging rumors that her church was actually operating as a cult.

After all of the drama, Mary skipped the Season 2 reunion and then took a step back from the show altogether in Season 3. Can you blame her? It was compelling television for us, but a nightmare for her.

The reality star and spiritual leader recently opened up to Us Weekly about her decision to leave RHOSLC after Season 2. She said she didn’t feel prepared to navigate the storm that came her way during the first two seasons.

“I had to take a step back and reevaluate the situation, because I didn’t realize — believe it or not — being on this show, I didn’t know what I was getting into,” Mary admitted. “I didn’t understand that it was going to be so chaotic.”

Honestly, Bravo probably didn’t know that RHOLSC was going to be that chaotic either. Either way, Mary said that the accusations about her church being a “cult” left her reconsidering her future. She blames Jen Shah for putting that story out there.

“She put that out there, and then people took it and ran with it,” Mary claimed.

Either way, Mary said that she has chosen to “let it go.” Slowly but surely, she reintegrated herself into the RHOSLC cast, and now, we can’t imagine the show without her.

“I just understood that this was part of my journey,” Mary said of the cult accusations. “When you’re strong enough, you go through some type of trial. Some type of change, some type of darkness, like I did, because I was able to get through it, I was able to handle it, and I was ready, but at the time, I didn’t know that.”

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo. Stream it the next day on Peacock.
