Real Housewives of Orange County’s Emily Simpson didn’t know what she was signing up for when she joined Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition. But it looks like she certainly got what she needed. Her husband, Shane Simpson, went into the show with one specific thing in mind that he hoped would change for their family.
Shane Simpson wishes he and Emily had “more family dinners”
“I do wish we had more family dinners,” Shane shared. “I think it’s important.” He and Emily share their daughter Annabelle and their twins, Luke and Keller. For the most part, in their home, everyone just eats on their own.
Emily described meal times as “chicken nuggets for the kids, rice for Luke, and then Shane’s on his own.” Luke has an avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder that Emily discussed in RHOC.
For the most part, Shane shoulders a larger portion of the household duties. “I’m an attorney, and most of my time is spent with domestic duties,” he said. “Emily knows I do a lot, but I don’t think she values how much that it is.”
She is certainly valuing it now since her time with the Svensson family. In the Svensson home, Erik Svensson doesn’t really pitch in. She admitted that she works far more than she anticipated she would, but the Wife Swap experience opened her eyes to all that Shane does for their family.
She even got emotional talking to Caley Svensson about how Caley made an effort to limit screen time and focus on making everyone sit at one table for family dinners because it creates a tradition of checking in.
“I love that you did that, because we never sit down as a family,” Emily admitted. She got teary-eyed and emotional thinking about how she wanted to be around the Svensson kids so much, and it made her reflect. “Why do I not put more time and effort into my own family?”
It looks like walking in someone else’s shoes gave Emily a new perspective. Perhaps Shane is going to get his flowers and his regular family dinners in the future.
