Moviegoers have hit Sydney Sweeney with a devastating blow, putting her latest film down for the count.
Christy, flopped in its first weekend at the box office, as Sydney made the wrong kind of history. The biopic, which chronicles the rise of boxer Christy Martin, pocketed just over $1.3 million.
Considering it came out in over 2,000 theatres, that’s a massive failure. It’s another blow to the actress whose name has taken its share of hits throughout the year.
Sydney Sweeney’s new movie made history by doing so badly

While few saw Christy in its first weekend in theatres, its legacy could live on for years to come.
Sadly, it’s not the kind of legacy or history you want to make. The movie is currently in the top 15 for worst openings by release date, according to Box Office Mojo.
The biopic sports drama may not be drawing big crowds at the theatres, but it’s receiving some solid feedback. It currently has a 66% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 150 reviews, and a 97% rating on the Popcornmeter. For some of those closest to Sydney, that proves it’s a must-see film.
Poor openings have become synonymous with Sydney, it seems. The debut of Americana grossed well under $1 million in its opening weekend in 2023. Eden, directed by Ron Howard, collected just over $1.5 million in the first weekend of release in 2024.
From her controversial American Eagle Outfitters campaign to going on a few dates with Scooter Braun, Sydney has taken her share of criticism from fans and Hollywood lately.
Her next two movie projects are expected to see some improvements at the box office for her. She stars alongside Amanda Seyfried in The Housemaid next month. The movie is adapted from the acclaimed book. Sydney is also reportedly set to appear in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is scheduled for release in May.
