Tom Bergeron Apologizes To Former DWTS Winner Bobby Bones

Bobby Bones won his season of Dancing with the Stars, much to Tom Bergeron’s surprise. Bobby wasn’t the most skilled dancer during Season 27. However, he had a massive following, thanks to his nationally syndicated country-music radio series, The Bobby Bones Show. These same followers helped Bobby move forward every week, leaving many viewers torn when he eventually won the entire thing.

To date, Tom remains surprised by this outcome. However, his recent statement about Bobby’s shocking win backfired. So now, Tom is stepping forward to apologize.

In a recent interview with Parade, Tom recalled his former hosting gig on DWTS. What shocked him the most during his run was when Bobby won, because “ouch” for those who danced better than he did, Tom joked. Well, Bobby is tired of hearing statements like this. So, he sent his Mirrorball Trophy back to ABC, because “They don’t want me to be a part of the show, obviously,” he posted.

When Tom learned that his quip upset Bobby, he took to his Instagram Stories to make things right. “Bobby, it wasn’t my intention to hurt your feelings. My ‘ouch’ was based on my honest feeling that your win spoke to a need to address the balance between judge and viewer voting,” Tom began. He continued, “I always felt bad that you & Sharna [Burgess] had to deal with the aftermath of that win & I certainly regret pouring any salt into that old wound.”

Tom sounds sincere here. However, Bobby has yet to respond to his apology.

Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It will stream on Hulu the next day.
