He will not be home for Christmas. Robert Cosby Jr., the troubled son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, has pleaded guilty to eight charges stemming from an incident at his in-laws’ house. He’s been behind bars since November 9, and after the guilty plea, he’s going to stay there for a few more months.
Robert Cosby Jr. pleaded guilty to assault and trespassing

Robert’s legal drama escalated last month when he showed up at his in-laws’ house. His wife, Alexiana Smokoff, took out an order of protection against him. His visit violated that order, and cops say Robert also struck his mother-in-law’s vehicle, threw a rock through a window, and damaged the siding of their house. When the cops arrived, they said that Rboert resisted arrest and bit an officer. They tased him to get him into custody, and he’s been in jail ever since.
According to court records reviewed by People, Robert racked up a total of 14 charges that day. At his first court hearing on November 25, he entered a guilty plea for eight of those charges. His charges include one count of felony property damage or destruction greater than or equal to $5,000.
The rest of the charges are misdemeanors. Those include two counts of violation of a pretrial protective order, one count of assault on a peace officer, and one count of violation of a jail release court order. There are also two counts of criminal trespass on a dwelling with intent to cause annoyance, injury, or fear, and one count of Class B misdemeanor assault.
His sentencing hearing is on February 3. He’ll remain behind bars until then. His wife has also filed for divorce.
Meanwhile, Robert’s lawyer released a statement saying that Robert is recognizing his mistakes. They said that this latest streak of bad behavior stemmed from his failing marriage, and his religious background made him hellbent on trying to fix it.
“Understanding and recognizing the relationship was difficult for Robert based on his religion and background. To him, marriage is sacred and forever,” his lawyer said.
He continued, “His parents were his example, and they’ve been married for 27 years. Robert was slow to recognize and accept his marriage was over and continued to connect with his soon-to-be ex-wife. Robert has accepted responsibility for his mistakes and has pleaded guilty to several misdemeanors.”
