Season 10 of The Real Housewives of Potomac has introduced the world to a new and improved Monique Samuels. The hair-pulling, binder-toting Housewife we left in Season 5 has evolved into a more emotionally mature woman. Her new memoir, Love Letters from Versions of Myself: A Memoir of Self-Discovery, Transformation, and Healing, aims to bring fans in on the entire process.

Monique’s been on a journey of self-discovery

In RHOP Season 10 Episode 13, Monique hosted a “sip and read” to introduce us to this book. She read a few passages aloud, and it seemed poignant. Sadly, the seriousness of the book got overshadowed by Ashley Darby and Angel Massie’s bickering over evictions and catfish allegations. Typical.

Before the episode aired, Monique did get a chance to have an uninterrupted interview with NBC Washington, where she opened up about the writing process for the memoir. She revealed that the whole project actually started off as a private journal.

“I felt like I was suffering in silence,” Monique said of her decision to start writing.

She continued, “I did not feel like anybody could understand what I was going through, and as I started sharing my story, people started reaching out.”

As Monique heard from more and more people going through similar self-discovery journeys, she felt inspired to turn her journaling into a fully-realized memoir. Her goal was to help people feel like they weren’t “suffering by themselves.”

Of course, Monique’s history on reality TV put her in a unique space to share this story. Real Housewives is a big platform, but it gets messy. She referred to the experience as a “curse that became a gift of self-discovery.” Expect to read all about it in this book.

“It was a gift because it allowed me to see myself,” Monique said of reality TV. “It really forced me to look inward.”

Monique is hopeful that through her book and her reintroduction to RHOP, she can teach people to recognize the patterns that are holding them back from their full potential. She said this process is all about “tearing down the whole facade,” and so far, it seems to be working.

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs on Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo. You can stream it the next day on Peacock.
