In a world of renowned impressionists, prosthetics, and incredibly talented makeup artists, it can be difficult to identify a celebrity. Last week, many people were fooled into thinking that Jim Carrey hadn’t been on stage to accept a special honor in France.
That’s because makeup artist Alexis Stone posted on Instagram a picture of a latex mask and wig that bears a striking resemblance to the star of The Mask. Jim’s publicist though, is setting the record straight on what transpired at the special ceremony in Paris.
Jim Carrey really did attend the César Awards in Paris

The Jim Carrey we saw on stage at the Olympia last week was the man himself. The comedian’s publicist tells TMZ that, “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.” Jim is the latest recipient of the honorary award, following Julia Roberts, who received it last year.
The idea that Alexis was pretending to be the Canadian on stage was deemed to be false. The general delegate for the awards, Greg Caulier, says that a lot of planning and preparation went into Jim’s speech. Jim learned and spoke it all in French.
It would have been a pretty elaborate hoax if it were true, as Jim’s family was in attendance for the special honor. Jim got very emotional on stage, talking about receiving the award. Since last summer, Jim had reportedly been committed to attending the event in Paris. During that time, he had practiced his speech in French. His partner, daughter, grandson, publicist, along with 12 close friends and family, were in the audience in the French capital.
While his heartfelt speech upon accepting the award garnered praise, his French diction received the opposite reaction. For his part, Jim did apologize for what he called “mediocre” French.
The two-time Golden Globe-winning actor’s last film role was voicing Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 2024.
