Lindsey Vonn is on the mend. The American skier suffered a horrific crash at the Milan Cortina Olympics last month, failing to finish her first run on the downhill course. That ended her big Olympic comeback, after coming of retirement for a second time in 2024.
She had been undergoing treatment for her wounds in an Italian hospital following her injury. The 2010 Olympic Gold medallist missed the 2022 Games in Beijing, four years after claiming a bronze medal in the women’s downhill event in PyeongChang. Lindsey broke her leg on the hills in Italy.
Lindsey Vonn is “finally home” and “getting healthy”
Despite everything she’s been through over the past few weeks, Lindsey is still smiling. The one-time downhill and Super G world champion posted a photo of herself back home on Instagram on Sunday with bandages on her leg. Online, Lindsey expressed relief to be “finally home,” while stating that the primary focus right now is on therapy and “getting healthy.”
Her desire to compete in the Olympics was heavily scrutinized. That’s because Lindsey had suffered a brutal crash at a World Cup skiing event just days before the start of the 2026 Olympics. Although she revealed that she ruptured her ACL, Lindsey said she would still compete.
The athlete will be taking some time for herself following her latest injury. It has been a difficult time for Lindsey personally, and not just because of her recent crash. Her dog Leo recently died, something she discovered shortly after her Olympics ended. Lindsey was airlifted to an Italian hospital after her crash, failing to finish that run. She underwent surgery to stabilize a fracture in her left leg.
In her decorated career as a skier Lindsey has captured 45 downhill events on the World Cup circuit.
