There seems to be a lot of chatter going around these days about actor Jim Carrey and his different appearance. Real Housewives of Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow is coming to his defense.
On February 26, the Ace Ventura star made a rare public appearance at the 51st César Awards in Paris. Following his acceptance speech, fans took to the Internet to comment on his changed appearance. Many people mentioned his “unrecognizable” facial features, while others actually suggested he’d been replaced by a clone.
The Botched doctor wants more kindness in the world
“They’ve been asking me about Jim Carrey, Bradley Cooper,” Terry told Tori Spelling on his March 9 appearance on her podcast misSPELLING. “What do you say when you’re confronted with that stuff? It’s so mean, right?”
“The big deal that just happened with Jim Carrey and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Paris,” he continued. “He looks so different, and all [critics] wanna do is talk about the way poor Jim Carrey looks.”
It’s been over 30 years since Ace Venture came out. As Terry admitted, fans were “used to seeing” the actor looking “young” for “so many years,” but he looks “different” now.
“I still think he looks great,” the Botched star continued.
Though Terry confessed he has no way of knowing whether the Grinch star has ever undergone plastic surgery, facial swelling could “take a long time to go down” following a procedure. It could temporarily change a person’s appearance.
“He’s kind of our national comedic treasure. Can’t we be a little more kind?” Dr. Terry added. “Every plastic surgeon in the world is going online and talking about, ‘There’s less skin in his upper eyelids and his brows are higher.’ They’re, like, dissecting him with a microscope, which is so unfair, I think, and uncool … It’s kind of like body-shaming to really be doing this.”
Meanwhile, Terry called for fans to have a little more empathy. “So, if you’re human, [the criticism] bugs you, he concluded. “I just think it’s really uncool.”
