The hosting job for Dancing with the Stars has seen a lot of changes over the past few years. The OG host of the series was Tom Bergeron, who kept viewers entertained for the first 28 seasons. Then, after sharing his opposition to politics merging with the show, he was fired. Tom’s co-host Erin Andrews followed suit, which meant that DWTS needed to quickly find a replacement.
Tyra Banks filled that slot for the next three seasons. Now, the dance competition is being co-hosted by Julianne Hough, a former pro dancer, and Alfonso Ribeiro, a Season 19’s winner. But apparently, there was another DWTS winner who was considered for the host position.
Bobby Bones almost got the Dancing with the Stars hosting gig
Tom was a recent guest on Bobby Bones’ podcast The BobbyCast. It was during the segment that Bobby revealed he was considered as a replacement for Tom.
“It was, ‘Hey, Tom is leaving at the end of this season. Would you want to come and host Dancing with the Stars?’ And I said, ‘I think that would be great,” he said in the March 12 episode.
The Season 27 controversial winner also claimed that he was strung along for the role as host before finding out through social media that Tyra got the part instead.
“We walked through all of that? Then out of nowhere … I never had it so they didn’t take it from me, but every indication was I was going to be that guy. But it’s fleeting. That industry is so fleeting.”
Don’t worry; just because he didn’t get the job doesn’t mean that he doesn’t keep up with DWTS. In fact, he caused a lot of ruckus online during Season 34.
Dancing with the Stars is available to stream on Disney+.
