Tyson Fury Only Wants Anthony Joshua as His Opponent After Boxing Return

Tyson Fury has clearly stated that he will continue boxing if he gets to fight Anthony Joshua next. Fresh off a 16-month hiatus, Fury dominated over Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, he now appears to be restless about the long-awaited fight with Joshua.

Tyson Fury ‘not interested’ in boxing if opponent is not Anthony Joshua

During his fight with Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday, Tyson Fury also tried to get Anthony Joshua to get in the ring. Joshua, on the other hand, refused to humor Fury’s fight call and stayed planted in his seat. During the post-fight news conferences, the 37-year-old said, “Let’s get the fight on. Here’s the thing. If it ain’t Anthony Joshua next, I’m not interested in boxing. I’ll eat a thousand Easter eggs go up to 35 stone. I’m out. I’m not interested.”

Fury continued, “It’s either him or I’m gone again. I’m not interested in up-and-comers, someone trying to prove a point over me, I don’t care.” He also claimed that he did not care about rankings and belts. All he cared about was a fight with Joshua, stating that it would be “the defining fight for British boxing.”

Meanwhile, Joshua got into the ring to say, “In my heart, I’ll fight Tyson Fury tomorrow, especially after watching [this fight]. I’m not going to sit here and say: ‘Yeah, I’ll fight him.’ I’m not here to get clout. I’m here to fight. Contracts will be sent over. We’ll go through the nitty gritty and you’ll probably see us in the ring next, more than likely.”

Four months ago, Joshua lost two friends in a car accident in Nigeria. The boxing champion stated that he needs to consider his options before getting back into the ring. The former heavyweight champions have been in talks about fighting for years, but negotiations have fallen through several times. Whether a fight between Fury and Joshua will take place remains uncertain as of now.
