Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe Says Watching Early Films Is Less ‘Cringe’

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe confessed that watching early films feels less “cringe” than before. He starred in the titular role as the boy wizard in eight movies, which catapulted him to global fame and stardom. Now, Radcliffe has reflected upon the earlier installments of the film series and confessed he has gotten comfortable with them now.

The Kill Your Darlings star recently revealed that he feels less “cringe” to watch his early movies as a child actor.

Daniel Radcliffe appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, where he discussed his breakout role as Harry Potter, among other things. The host mentioned to him that Andrew Garfield recently watched Harry Potter and loved his performance.

To this, Radcliffe remarked, “Hey, thank you Andrew Garfield. He is awesome. He is so fantastic. I disagree with him about my performance in Potter. But that’s really nice, thank you.”

Continuing further, the 36-year-old shared, “I have more time for me now in my early films. Like when I was 18, I would cringe watching the earlier films. Now, I think the early films are sweet, and now I cringe watching myself when I was 18 or 19. I assume those dates would keep changing as to what I find palatable about my own work.”

Horowitz then asked, “Is there one sweet spot or the negative of a sweet spot that you are purposely avoiding? Like one age, one moment…” To which the Guns Akimbo actor promptly replied, “I haven’t seen any of them for so long. So all of them, I guess.”

Furthermore, Josh Horowitz asked Daniel Radcliffe to rank the Harry Potter films based on his preference. When asked between Philosopher’s Stone versus Chamber of Secrets, he chose the latter.

Asked to choose next between Prisoner of Azkaban or Goblet of Fire, Radcliffe sighed and replied, “That’s actually tough. I know everyone wants me to say Azkaban. But I love the stuff I got to do in the fourth movie. So, I would say Goblet of Fire.”

As the audience applause died down, Horowitz threw another curveball, “Order of the Phoenix or Half-Blood Prince.” Daniel Radcliffe immediately chose the former. Finally, he chose the final Harry Potter film over its predecessor, declaring Deathly Hallows Part 2 as his “favorite” Potter film.
