Meghan Markle reportedly faced a direct royal rebuke after a complaint from Windsor staff. A new claim said the Duchess of Sussex was spoken to by Queen Elizabeth herself after an alleged incident involving a gardener.
The account came from a royal historian’s retelling, not from palace records or Meghan Markle directly. It also remained one-sided. The Duchess of Sussex has never publicly addressed the alleged exchange or commented on this specific story.
Queen Elizabeth ‘tore a strip off’ Meghan Markle, claims author
According to the woman&home report, historian Hugo Vickers shared the story on the “Daily T” podcast. He said the late Queen received a report from Windsor’s head gardener. According to Vickers, Meghan Markle had “apparently” been rude to “one of the under-gardeners.” He then claimed Queen Elizabeth “got in her car” and went to see her. In his version, the monarch “tore a strip off her” because “you cannot be rude to staff.” Vickers also said the Duchess “needed to be ticked off” and “put in her place.”
However, the report made clear this was Vickers’ version of events. It was not presented as a public palace statement. Still, the report linked it to other moments when authors said the late Queen pushed back privately. The piece cited Robert Jobson’s “The Windsor Legacy,” which claimed Meghan’s Dior outfit in Morocco drew the monarch’s disapproval because of its reported £60,000 cost.
Meanwhile, another long-circulating account involved the royal wedding tiara. Author Robert Lacey claimed Queen Elizabeth said, “Meghan cannot have whatever she wants.” He also said, “She gets the tiara that she’s given by me.”
Elsewhere, the report noted that Prince Harry later denied one famous line tied to that dispute. In “Spare,” he said he never told staff, “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.” That mattered because it showed how contested some of these palace stories remained.
At the same time, the outlet said Meghan had always spoken warmly about the late Queen in public. She later called her “the most shining example” of female leadership. For now, this latest gardener story remained an author’s claim, not a confirmed palace account, and Meghan Markle has never publicly addressed it.
