Elle Fanning recently expressed that her view of OnlyFans changed while researching “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.” The actor explained that the role pushed her beyond her assumptions about the explicit-content platform and into a much broader online world.
According to a new Instagram clip from the “Kelly Clarkson Show,” the research involved watching paid content on the site. The conversation also tied back to her SXSW comments about how the Apple TV series needed a closer look at how OnlyFans actually worked.
Elle Fanning reveals OnlyFans consists of a ‘vast spectrum’ of videos
On the “Kelly Clarkson Show,” Elle Fanning first explained how “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” handled breastfeeding scenes. She said, “I wore prosthetic breasts.” She then described the effect used for the show’s OnlyFans material, saying, “For certain scenes, we had to show like squirting milk, so there was a tube.” Kelly Clarkson connected that directly to the site-based storyline. Fanning replied, “For the OnlyFans, yeah.” That clip set up the broader discussion about research.
Then she explained how that research changed her outlook. When Clarkson asked whether the team signed up to study the platform, Fanning said, “Yes.” She clarified, “I didn’t create an account myself,” but there was “this kind of joint account with a username” the group could use.
Production handled the payments, she added, so they could watch real material. That was where her perspective shifted. “I think I had one view of what OnlyFans was,” she said. The actor added that further research helped her to get more clarity. A moment later, she summed it up as “a vast spectrum.”
Fanning then listed the clips that surprised her most. She said some creators “lick doorknobs,” while others “step in butter,” which made Clarkson laugh. Earlier, at SXSW on March 12, the actor told People that the show had to “dive into OnlyFans a little bit” to understand Margo’s world.
Showrunner Eva Anderson also said the writers researched the site only after giving “consent to each other.” In her upcoming project, Fanning plays Margo Millet, a young mother trying to make money online. All of their research fed into “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” the Apple TV adaptation of Rufi Thorpe’s novel, which premiered on April 15.
