If you’ve ever wondered how drug-taking scenes are filmed for movies and TV, then wonder no more. Girls star Lena Dunham has just revealed that she snorted milk powder for the infamous cocaine scene in Season 2.
A cocaine scene had the actress snorting lactose
Chatting on Las Culturistas, Lena took fans behind-the-scenes of life on the set of Girls. The HBO hit ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017, and followed four young women in their twenties as they navigated life, careers, and relationships in New York City.
While there are plenty of iconic moments to choose from, one episode that often sticks out to many Girls fans is from Season 2. In Episode 3 – titled: Bad Friend – Lena’s character, Hannah, is tasked with writing an article about her first time taking cocaine. All in the name of good journalism, she then spends the night getting high on the drug alongside Elijah, played by Andrew Rannells.
Now, years on, Lena – who also worked on the recent Netflix hit, Too Much – has revealed how that legendary episode was actually filmed. “We snorted a lot of lactose powder,” she admitted. “Andrew and I recently talked about it. Like, we snorted tons of milk off a toilet that day.”
“And, you can’t know what that does,” the actor went on, sharing that the impact on their bodies was, well, unpleasant to say the least. “What came later was a sinus infection,” Lena explained. “We didn’t feel good.”
“So this nightlife scene was actually us jacked up on lactose powder,” she continued.
In the comment section, fans of the series showed their appreciation for Lena’s appearance on the podcast. “So much love for Lena! This episode made me soooo happy,” one person said on YouTube. “Lena is a once-in-a-lifetime talent. Girls was and always will be my favorite show,” added another viewer.
