RFK Jr. cut off penis of dead raccoon, book claims
New York Post journalist Isabel Vincent has detailed a bizarre incident involving Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in her new book, “RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise.” The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services had once reportedly cut off a dead raccoon’s penis after spotting the animal on the road during a family trip.
Vincent’s book incorporates multiple sources, including RFK Jr.’s private journals from his years in New York City between 1999 and 2001. In one of the reported entries, the U.S. Secretary detailed his strained relationship with brother Douglas Kennedy and cousin Bobby Shriver, and also included this strange incident.
“I was standing in front of my parked car on I-684 cutting the penis out of a road killed raccoon, thinking about how weird some of my family members have turned out to be,” the passage reads. “My kids waited patiently in the car,” Kennedy wrote, later explaining to PEOPLE that he collected the body part to “study them later.”
This is not the only time RFK Jr. has dabbled in his eccentric hobby. In a 2012 interview with Town & Country magazine, his daughter, Kick Kennedy, detailed another instance of his fascination with animal anatomy. She recalled that her father had once decapitated a whale carcass during a family vacation to Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, in her childhood.
Kick shared that her father had strapped the whale head to the roof of the family car. “Every time we accelerated on the highway, whale juice would pour into the windows of the car, and it was the rankest thing on the planet,” she recalled. “We all had plastic bags over our heads with mouth holes cut out, and people on the highway were giving us the finger, but that was just normal day-to-day stuff for us.”
Furthermore, in 2024, Kennedy himself admitted to dumping a dead bear cub in Central Park after he unsuccessfully tried to skin it. He said that he spotted the dead animal during a falconing trip in Goshen, New York.
