Today’s rating revealed after Savannah Guthrie’s return

Savannah Guthrie took a long break from Today in the wake of her mother’s kidnapping. 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31 at her home in Tucson, Arizona, before disappearing. With the investigation going on, Savannah took a break from Today for nearly two months.

With the investigation into the disappearance still going on, the broadcast journalist decided to make a return to the show on April 6, 2026. NBC decided not to bring up the subject or address Guthrie’s absence for the two months on air.

However, it seems that Guthrie’s return boosted Today’s ratings significantly (via TV Insider).

Between Today, Good Morning America, and CBS Mornings, Today was the only show to see a notable hike in viewership in the week that Guthrie returned. Among the three shows, Today led the way with 3.139 million average total viewers and 630,000 average viewers in the key Adults 25-54 demo.

Today’s viewership was up by 6% from the previous week, while demo viewers were up 2%. Moreover, Today also saw a 21% increase in total viewers and a 2% increase in key demo viewers compared to the same week in 2025.

ABC trailed NBC with an average of 2.898 million total viewers and an average of 493,000 viewers in the Adults demo. Good Morning America did not see any hike in total viewers from the previous week, but was up 4% in the key demo. CBS Mornings continued to lag behind the other two shows with an average of 1.74 million total viewers and 251,000 in the 25-54 demo.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is still ongoing.
