Why Mark Ballas Was Forced To Exit Chicago Show Mid-Performance

Dancing with the Stars pro Mark Ballas is once again on Broadway. On the plus side, Mark is performing with his Season 34 DWTS partner, Whitney Leavitt. Unfortunately, illness has affected his ability to perform as Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago.

Whitney and Mark’s time on DWTS was controversial. Some fans felt that Whitney’s dance background gave her an unfair advantage in the ballroom. Meanwhile, a snafu with a fan giveaway also dogged the dancing duo. However, Mark and Whitney’s journey ended just shy of the finale, shocking the early frontrunners.

Meanwhile, fans were thrilled to see Mark return to the ballroom after his retirement. “You know, I thought I was done competing in 2022,” Mark previously explained. “I had some injury stuff that I had to kind of be diligent about.”

After DWTS, Whitney nabbed the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago. In March, Mark announced that he would be appearing as Billy for a limited engagement alongside Whitney. Unfortunately, illness has sidelined Mark.

On April 20, Mark was in the middle of a performance when his voice gave out. In his Instagram Story, Mark posted, “I unfortunately couldn’t make it through the first act. I tried my best, but I am still recovering and probably should have waited as am not fully healed & my voice totally went out on me halfway through the first song.” He added, “I apologize profusely to all that came out to see me & this wonderful cast. I am devastated.”

In a previous Instagram Story from May 19, Mark wrote, “Sorry, I will not be able to perform again tonight. This illness has hit me and my whole household very hard. I have been doing everything I can to get back.” Mark revealed days earlier in a social media post that he was suffering from “a viral illness.”

We are sending our best wishes to Mark for a speedy recovery.
