Jimmy Kimmel Trolls Donald Trump for Allegedly Wanting Medal of Honor for Himself

With recent reports suggesting that Donald Trump seemingly tried to award the Medal of Honor to himself for his visit to war-riddled Iran, Jimmy Kimmel has once again embraced the opportunity to ridicule the president with open arms. In his latest monologue, the veteran comedian mocked Trump for supposedly wanting to grant himself the nation’s highest military honor by comparing it to a “reach-around.”

Jimmy Kimmel jokes about Donald Trump’s alleged recent award comment

The late-night talk show host opened the April 20 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! by covering Donald Trump’s recent conferences, before jumping to the update linking the president to the Medal of Honor.

“Can you imagine if Trump gave himself the— of course you can imagine it, yes. He accepted the Nobel Prize as a gift,” Kimmel remarked, referring to the time when Venezuelan leader María Corina Machado gifted her Peace Prize to Trump.

The 58-year-old host continued, “But what if he does, what if he puts that medal around his own neck? Would that be enough for these zombies who still worship him to wake up? Just fundamentally, can a person give himself an award? I think it’s impossible. It’s like trying to give yourself a reach-around.”

Notably, a recent Wall Street Journal report noted that Donald Trump had broached the idea of awarding himself the Medal of Honor at a reception held in the build-up to the United States’ 250th anniversary of independence. However, the president was unable to fulfill his desire after White House counsel David Warrington spoke against the proposal. Meanwhile, Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, simply brushed off the ordeal by describing it as another one of Trump’s unusual jokes.

“According to those who were there, Trump believes he deserves the Medal of Honor because his plane flew into Iraq on an unlit runway during a first-term trip to visit troops. Well, if that’s all it takes, anyone who ever flew into Newark deserves the Medal of Honor,” Jimmy Kimmel quipped.
