King Charles & Queen Camilla To Visit U.S. After White House Shooting

After the shooting that caused commotion during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, King Charles and Queen Camilla will reportedly still visit the U.S. this week. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the couple will visit as planned after discussions in both the U.K. and the U.S.

Moreover, they reportedly plan to arrive in Washington, D.C., on April 27, for a four-day trip to honor the United States’ upcoming 250th anniversary of independence and to highlight its ties with the UK.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit U.S. ‘as planned’ following White House dinner shooting

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace told PEOPLE that King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit the U.S. despite the shooting incident during White House Correspondents’ Dinner the previous day.

The spokesperson confirmed, “Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the State Visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned.”

They added, “The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case.” Moreover, they said that the King and Queen “are looking forward to the visit getting underway tomorrow.”

The confirmation came one day after gunfire erupted during the Correspondents’ Dinner, which took place at the Washington Hilton, and live footage showed Secret Service agents moving into the ballroom and escorting President Donald Trump off the stage area soon after the event began.

Trump addressed the incident on Truth Social afterward, writing, “Quite an evening in D.C.” Moreover, he praised the response from law enforcement, adding that they “acted quickly and bravely,” and reassuring, “The First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition,” in another post.

PEOPLE reported that Charles and Camilla reached out privately to Trump and Melania following the shooting.

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s schedule during their U.S. visit includes events in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Virginia, with Charles also planning to address a joint meeting of Congress.
