Meghan Markle Given Brutal Nickname by Royal Before Marriage — Author

A royal biographer, Hugo Vickers, reportedly wrote in his book “Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History” that Meghan Markle was given a brutal nickname by the late Prince Philip before her marriage. According to reports, Markle first met Philip in 2017 at Sandringham Estate, when the royal family gathered for Christmas. This came shortly after her relationship with Prince Harry began. The author claimed that while royal staff gave her an affectionate nickname, Philip took a more blunt approach.

Prince Philip called Meghan Markle ‘the American’ before Prince Harry marriage, per source

A new report by OK! Magazine suggested that the late Prince Philip called Meghan Markle “the American” before her marriage to Prince Harry. The information came from Hugo Vickers, who detailed the incident in his book “Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History.” The former “Suits” star reportedly first met the then Duke of Edinburgh in 2017 during a royal Christmas gathering, shortly after the duo started dating.

As per the author, royal staff affectionately called her “Meghan Sparkle.” However, the report stated that Philip allegedly showed some disdain toward her and was skeptical of his grandson, Harry, marrying her. The book claimed that he nicknamed her “the American.”

Vickers also mentioned in his book that the royal staff “joyfully surrounded the couple at the annual Christmas party.” Another source added that while such remarks seemed harsh, they were not unusual for Philip, as he was known for his “sharp” observations.

Meanwhile, other sources said that he also warned Harry about marrying an actor. According to a palace source, Philip was direct with Harry. He allegedly “chose words that carried a clear undertone of skepticism” when it came to Markle. The insider added, “Referring to her as ‘the American’ wasn’t just a casual label – it reflected a certain distance and a reluctance to fully embrace her.”
