Donald Trump Takes Subtle Dig at UK PM With King Charles Praise

Donald Trump has landed yet another hit in his verbal war with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with the US President throwing shade at his British counterpart amid King Charles‘ visit to Washington. Having criticized Starmer for his stance on the US-Iran war on several occasions in the past, Trump slyly dissed the UK official again, all the while showering the King with praise.

Donald Trump says King Charles could’ve ‘helped with Iran war’

During a recent Oval Office meeting with astronauts from the Artemis II space mission, Donald Trump commended King Charles and relayed that he would’ve been able to count on the British monarch if the latter had much say in foreign policymaking. In doing so, the president fired a silent shot at the UK Prime Minister in front of the NASA crewmembers, who had recently returned home.

Trump mentioned that the King was a “great friend” of his, before describing him as “fantastic.” The president further added that if it were in the 77-year-old royalty’s hands, he would’ve aided the US in the Middle Eastern conflict. “I think if he were doing that, if that were up to him, he would have probably helped us with Iran,” Trump remarked, as per NBC News.

Interestingly, Donald Trump’s backhanded statement comes on the back of his public criticism of Keir Starmer for constantly showing reluctance in supporting the United States’ cause in Iran. In March, the businessman-turned-politician slammed Starmer for causing a delay in providing access to UK bases to the US for launching strikes at Iran.

Claiming that the prime minister’s lack of readiness cost the US some critical hours, Trump called out Starmer during a press briefing in the Oval Office. “He ruins relationships,” the president said, as per Time Magazine. “We are very surprised. This is not Winston Churchill that we’re dealing with.”
