Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, took huge offense to the late-night host mocking them ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, calling the First Lady “an expectant widow.”
The President accused Jimmy of promoting violence. His segment came before a shooting at the annual festivities in Washington, D.C., last Saturday. However, the CBS Mornings co-host doesn’t share the same views at the POTUS.

People shouldn’t read anything into Jimmy’s parody. That is how Gayle sees the situation that has the comedian in some hot water with the White House. On CBS Mornings, she noted how that segment came before the big gala. She adds that Jimmy is “not some crazy person who would wish the president to be killed. He just would not do that.”
Jimmy’s comments have polarized many. The President called for ABC to fire him, while Melania called Jimmy a “coward.” The FCC has said they’re reviewing numerous ABC stations. Texas Senator Ted Cruz is in Jimmy’s camp, arguing that he shouldn’t face consequences from the FCC.
Gayle’s views on this matter are being met with criticism from some. Communications psychologist Dr. Lillian Glass thinks she needs to be a journalist and remain neutral on this matter. She says that by taking a side, the host should incur professional consequences. Lillian is accusing her of trying to have it both ways.
ABC has acted against Jimmy before, suspending him following his controversial remarks after the Charlie Kirk assassination. Insiders, however, say he won’t face any consequences from the network for the shots fired at Melania last week.
