Joy Behar Slams Jeff Bezos as ‘Tacky’ for Met Gala 2026 Involvement

Joy Behar aimed at Jeff Bezos after protesters gathered outside the Met Gala, where the billionaire served as honorary chair and lead sponsor. The longtime comedian and TV host used the Tuesday episode of The View to frame the backlash around wealth, taxes, and timing. The View segment also gave the table room to defend fashion, arts funding, and one very expensive New York night.

Joy Behar says she’s ‘sick’ of Jeff Bezos amid his involvement in Met Gala 2026

As per The View segment titled “Backlash Against Bezos’ Involvement in Met Gala,” Whoopi Goldberg opened the segment by noting protesters outside. She said they objected to “this year’s honorary chair and lead sponsor, billionaire Jeff Bezos.” Then, Joy Behar answered quickly, saying, “I’m sick of him.” She added, “I also love Amazon. That’s my dilemma.” Behar then called the celebration badly timed, saying it felt “tacky” amid economic pressure. She also said, “Pay your taxes, Jeff Bezos, pay your taxes and pay your employees.”

However, the panel did not land in one place on the Met Gala debate. Sunny Hostin pushed back by pointing to the Costume Institute’s funding model. She said the gala raised a “record breaking $42 million” and supported exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, and operations. Meanwhile, Alyssa Farah Griffin called the event “opulence” and “elitist” in some ways. Still, she said she enjoyed checking the gowns because it offered an escape from daily stress. The star also praised New York museums and the public access around the Met.

Still, The View returned to the money question. Behar said the entry cost “$100,000,” while many people could not afford basic expenses. Later, Goldberg said she had attended the gala before and noted that protests also happen at the Oscars and Grammys. She argued, “Two things can be true at the same time.” Even so, she agreed that billionaires should pay workers and taxes. For Behar, the Bezos problem was not the gowns. It was the image of extreme wealth around the Met Gala while regular Americans struggled.
