Hugh Jackman asked Ryan Reynolds’ for permission before helping Blake Lively
Hugh Jackman revealed he sought Ryan Reynolds’ permission before helping Blake Lively. Jackman attended the Met Gala 2026 with his partner Sutton Foster. Meanwhile, Lively attended the fashion event solo. Jackman appeared on Today With Jenna & Sheinelle on May 6.
Jackman narrated, “There was another cool moment. I’m literally, as I’m saying it, thinking maybe you shouldn’t say this — but Blake, my good friend Blake Lively, goes, ‘Dude, I need some help with the dress. I think there’s a hook in there.’”
The Wolverine star joked, “And I’m like, ‘OK.’ I’m like, ‘Ryan [Reynolds], is this cool? Checking. Are we good?’” Jackman and Reynolds co-starred in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Notably, Lively modeled an archival Atelier Versace gown from spring 2006 and accessorized it with custom Lorraine Schwartz jewelry (via PEOPLE). A source told the outlet that the Gossip Girl star seemed “strong, confident, fearless” on the red carpet, adding that she’s “standing strong.”
The source also shared that Lively was “chatting” with others at the event and “didn’t avoid anybody or any conversations.” Moreover, the insider added, “She smiled, and she looked comfortable.” On the other hand, Jackman and Foster debuted as a couple at the Met Gala this year. This marked Foster’s Met Gala debut as well.
Foster stunned in a gold metallic one-shoulder gown with a knot at right-center and a subtle thigh slit. The floor-length gown trailed behind her as she completed the look with jewelry by Fred Leighton. Jackman, on the other hand, wore a classic black tuxedo paired with a silver brooch pin (via PEOPLE).
