Ben Stiller Addresses Missing Knicks Game for Met Gala: ‘Was Tough’

Ben Stiller revealed he wasn’t particularly happy about attending the Met Gala over the New York Knicks game. Stiller discussed missing his favorite NBA team’s triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers in the first game of their second-round playoff series on Monday. The 60-year-old revealed he attended the Met Gala because he owed it to a friend. However, he confessed he watched the game on his phone during the fashion event.

Ben Stiller breaks silence on choosing the Met Gala over the Knicks game

Ben Stiller addressed missing the Knicks game for the Met Gala on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday. He revealed, “It was a tough one for me. It’s been a really interesting experience because I didn’t think anybody really would care that much about whether or not I was there” (via Entertainment Weekly).

Stiller explained how he and his wife, Christine Taylor, ultimately chose the Met Gala. It was because they felt they owed it to the friend who invited them to the event. He revealed that he planned his schedule in a way that would allow him to attend the high-octane game. But ultimately chose to honor his work commitments.

Stiller explained, “The last season or so, I’ve tried to work my professional work life around the Knicks. All the way through to making sure that as this playoff run happens and this Finals run could possibly happen, that I’m making sure that I’m gonna be there.”

However, Stiller found a unique way of showing his support for his favourite team. He coordinated his and his wife’s outfits to match the signature orange-and-blue color scheme of the Knicks. Not only that, the Zoolander star watched some of the game while inside the fashion event.

The 60-year-old dished enthusiastically, “You know, Anna Wintour doesn’t like it when people are watching their phones at the Met Gala. He added, “You know, she wants everybody’s attention to be there, which I understand. I was watching the game, checking on it. But it was really, really tough.”

Stiller also joked that he hoped to bump into Timothée Chalamet. He, of course, attended the Knicks game with girlfriend Kylie Jenner. The Meet the Parents star recalled, “The irony was, I said to Christine, ‘I hope Timothée is also going to the Met Gala,’ and of course he wasn’t.”
