Ben Stiller might think twice before he hits “post” on social media again. Over the weekend, he found himself in a major social media storm due to the timing of a post, which happened to go out just as the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) shooting took place.
The actor was celebrating the New York Knicks

To recap, a man opened fire near a security checkpoint at the WHCD on April 25. The event was taking place at the ballroom of a DC hotel. Guests dropped to the ground as Donald Trump and other politicians were escorted to safety … meanwhile, however many miles away, actor and comedian Ben celebrated a win for the New York Knicks.
Unaware of the incident that was unfolding at the WHCD, Knicks fan Ben was sharing live reactions on X as the team scored a defeat over the Atlanta Hawks. “Got it done,” he posted (via his official @BenStiller account) in response to the match, just minutes after Trump was escorted out of the WHCD.
The ill-timed – albeit totally innocent – post was met with a sharp reaction online. Many MAGA fans interpreted Ben’s comment as a reaction to the shooting.
“Got what done?” said Republican @NancyMace, who is running for Governor of South Carolina. “Wtf?” replied Trump’s special envoy, @RichardGrenell.
“I guess you think you’re clever and were giggling as you typed it, knowing that you could present it one way as oh so innocently to the public,” posted @SherryB120.
Elsewhere, others were able to work out what Ben’s post was really about. “Poor guy is just trying to post about Knicks basketball and can’t catch a break,” shared @RBrandonWest. “Complete idiots in the comments not realizing he’s simply celebrating a Knicks playoff win,” added @KnicksMuse.
“People in the comments don’t know what life is like when it doesn’t revolve around Trump 24/7,” wrote @ALLABOUTJAYTEEN.
