Conan O’Brien tapped in to host the Oscars for the third time
Conan O’Brien has been recruited to host the 99th annual Oscars next year, the Academy announced on May 12. President of Disney Television Group Craig Erwich lavished praise on O’Brien in a detailed statement. Erwich stated, “Conan has created remarkable energy around ‘The Oscars.’ His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year. We’re proud to welcome him back and look forward to what he and the producing team deliver next.”
Kapoor and Mullan issued a brief statement as well and called reuniting with O’Brien “really special.” The duo shared, “He’s a true creative partner, someone we trust completely, and someone who makes the whole process genuinely fun, both behind the scenes and on stage. We’re incredibly grateful to keep building this together and can’t wait to share what’s next” (via PEOPLE).
The popular talk show host first took over hosting duties in 2025. At the time, the star-studded event reached a five-year high with over 19 million viewers. In fact, ahead of this year’s ceremony, O’Brien shared how the honor has been a full-circle moment for him.
Previously, the popular talk show host revealed his connection to the awards show, stating, “To think that maybe now I’m part of that equation somehow, and in a cosmic way links me to my dad, is pretty amazing.” His father, Thomas O’Brien, with whom he reportedly shared a close bond, died in December 2024.
The Academy Awards will air live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 14 next year at 7 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. PDT.
