Macaulay Culkin Opens up About His ‘Outstanding Debt’ to Catherine O’Hara

Macaulay Culkin recently looked back at one of the most meaningful relationships of his career, and the emotions behind it were still incredibly raw. While reflecting on his life, fame, and the legacy of “Home Alone” during a recent interview, the actor spoke of the deep bond he shared with his on-screen mother, Catherine O’Hara.

Culkin also seemed visibly emotional while discussing the “Schitt’s Creek” actor’s passing earlier this year. He also went on to admit that her loss left him with a lingering feeling of “unfinished business.”

Macaulay Culkin remembers his Home Alone co-star Catherine O’Hara

Macaulay Culkin recently spoke to The Gentleman’s Journal in an interview. He opened up as he tried to dive deep to sort through his past and present. It was like a meditation on clothes, characters, and the cost of early fame. In addition, he said he has also been thinking about his “Home Alone” mother, Catherine O’Hara. He discussed how he had been recollecting the moment when she showed up for support when he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

While discussing this emotional part surrounding O’Hara and her passing away earlier this year, Culkin exclaimed, “When Catherine passed away in January, that hit me. That hit me pretty good.” He further added, “This was cause, you know, it was just too soon. And I felt that we had unfinished business. I definitely feel like I had unfinished business with her, you know? I feel like I owed her a favour and I don’t like having an outstanding debt!”

Unfortunately, it was clear that Culkin wasn’t really done. The “Home Alone” star took to Instagram after the awful news spread through Hollywood and beyond. He posted a rather emotional post featuring an adorable picture from “Home Alone,” along with a more recent recreation of the same. He wrote in a heartbreaking caption, “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”
