Nicole Scherzinger finally got the Pussycat Dolls back together, only to watch most of the reunion tour collapse before it even began. After the group axed nearly all of its North American dates following weak ticket sales, the singer is reportedly “disappointed.”
As per Us Weekly, Scherzinger had been genuinely excited to reunite with Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt for what the trio hoped would launch a fresh era for the Pussycat Dolls brand.
Nicole Scherzinger is “disappointed” the Pussycat Tour was axed
“Nicole is disappointed,” a source told Us Weekly. “She was really excited to get back out there with Ashley and Kimberly to celebrate a new era, but now she feels they didn’t get a chance to showcase what they can do.”
The insider reportedly admitted the group may have aimed too high too quickly after spending more than 15 years off the road. Instead of easing back into touring, the Dolls booked major arenas, including Madison Square Garden, despite only releasing one new single, “Club Song,” ahead of the reunion.
“They overestimated the demand,” the source added.
The Pussycat Dolls officially announced their comeback earlier this year, sparking plenty of nostalgia online from fans who grew up blasting “Don’t Cha,” “Buttons,” and “When I Grow Up” during the mid-2000s pop era. But excitement online apparently didn’t fully translate into ticket sales.
Earlier this month, the group confirmed they would cancel all but one stop on the U.S. and Canada leg of the PCD Forever Tour. In a statement shared with fans, the trio called the decision “difficult and heartbreaking” after taking “an honest look” at sales numbers.
Still, Scherzinger reportedly isn’t giving up on the reunion entirely.
The singer recently shared rehearsal footage on Instagram showing herself, Roberts, and Wyatt practicing choreography ahead of their June 6 appearance at the OutLoud Music Festival in West Hollywood. The group is also still expected to move forward with its European tour beginning in September.
According to the source, Scherzinger is hopeful international crowds and inevitable fan videos online could eventually rebuild momentum for another run.
