Defense Demands DUI Case Against Comedian Tiffany Haddish Be Dropped: ‘Failure To Rule’

Tiffany Haddish’s lawyers, Marissa Goldberg and Drew Findling, are asking a Georgia judge to dismiss the comedian’s DUI case. They argued that it has been sitting unresolved for nearly four years with no clear ruling from the court. Haddish was arrested in January 2022 after police in Peachtree City reportedly found her asleep behind the wheel while she was in Georgia filming “Haunted Mansion.”

According to TMZ, Tiffany Haddish repeatedly informed the court she was ready to move forward with the trial. But important rulings allegedly never came. “The procrastinated failure to rule on a misdemeanor case with no victims or injuries is unprecedented,” the attorneys stated while discussing the stalled case.

They also argued prosecutors appear uninterested in pursuing the matter anymore, adding that “fairness and the constitution require that the court dismiss this case.” The court filing also stated that the unresolved case is beginning to create problems in Haddish’s career. As per her lawyers, the comedian has struggled to secure travel documents tied to overseas work. These included projects in Australia, too.

The filing further claimed that some companies have become reluctant to work with her. This is not Haddish’s only recent run-in connected to DUI allegations. In November 2023, Beverly Hills police arrested the comedian after officers reportedly found her asleep in her car following a stand-up performance. The case was later lowered to reckless driving after Haddish agreed to a plea deal. It included probation, community service, and alcohol education classes.

Over the past year, Haddish has openly talked about quitting alcohol and trying to reset her life after her legal troubles. During an interview with PEOPLE at the “Friendly House Comedy Fundraiser” in April 2024, she admitted, “I’ve learned that I’ve been too damn nice. I’ve been way too nice over the years.” She also revealed she had stopped drinking and smoking, saying sobriety made her feel clearer-headed.

Haddish later spoke about her sobriety journey on Amanda de Cadenet’s podcast, “The Conversation.” There, she explained that staying sober became part of her court requirements after the DUI arrests. “I consider myself being obedient to the law,” she said while discussing the ongoing cases.
