Nic Vansteenberghe has zero worries about the criticisms he’s facing. He and Olandria Carthen met on Season 7 of Love Island USA and formed a tight romantic connection. Nic is getting plenty of backlash online, including for an alleged viral video in which he reportedly utters a racial slur among other things.
His focus nowadays is on blocking out all the hate and looking forward. He believes the negative attention surrounding him is being blown out of proportion.

His relationship and marketing opportunities are all Nic cares about these days. Speaking to US Weekly, he says that “the critics and the critiques are just overdone.” He adds that “I’ve said all I need to say.” He made the comments while promoting a Smirnoff Ice partnership. Nic declares that he is “not giving it any more attention,” referring to the backlash he has faced.
Nic is setting boundaries and putting a little distance between himself and the online world for now. Last month, he shared that he was on a break from posting online. He admitted to feeling pressure about sharing moments all the time about what’s new with Olandria and him. His absence from social media prompted some to speculate about where Nic and Olandria stand these days. Their romance on Season 7 of Love Island USA captivated audiences.
The couple will soon celebrate one year together. There are many hoping to see the two make an appearance on Season 8 of Love Island USA. It remains to be seen if that will happen. Nic will be a part of the upcoming season in some capacity, however. He is partnering with Smirnoff Ice, which is the show’s official malt beverage.
When a new season returns, Smirnoff Ice will launch The Fan Edit. That gives fans a chance to vote on the bold new flavor.
Love Island USA will return to Peacock for US audiences on June 2.
