Chinese fans admire Donald and Melania Trump’s relationship, expert says

Chinese citizens have become fans of the dynamic shared between Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, with some finding it similar to a soap opera. Although Melania was not a part of the convoy that traveled with the President to China, many Chinese nationals have professed their admiration for the couple.

Melania visited China with Trump in 2017, and since then, her following in the country has grown. According to a report by The Mirror, fans in China have developed a liking to Melania’s fashion sense, her “independence, and how she’s raising her teenage son (Barron Trump).”

Speaking on this, a Media Studies professor, Jingsi Wu, likened Chinese public interest in the relationship to interest in a “soap opera” and conveyed, “Chinese fans like her having both traditional and modern sides of a woman.” Moreover, in February, a professor at the School of Communication in Hong Kong Baptist University, Rose LuQiu, commented on how fans perceive the effect of Melania on Trump’s success and told AP News, “The more independent and accomplished she is — but still unwaveringly loyal to (Donald) Trump — the more it reflects his perceived success as a man.”

A source in the fashion industry, Huang Li, also told AP News that many Chinese citizens want to know more about Melania.

As Melania’s popularity grows in China, her decision not to visit the country has prompted questions on social media about the reason for it. Trump’s convoy for his China trip included Marco Rubio, Jensen Huang, Elon Musk, Tim Cook, and the CEOs of other companies, including Boeing, Citi, Masterclass, and many more.
