A royal reunion more than a decade in the making took place this week at Windsor Castle. Prince William came face-to-face once again with Ellie Goulding, the singer who famously performed during his 2011 wedding celebrations.
The special occasion was part of an investiture ceremony honoring individuals for their public contributions and achievements. For many royal fans, the meeting also brought back memories of the iconic royal wedding of William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Prince William presented Ellie Goulding with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal during a ceremony held at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, May 13. The “Burn” singer was recognized for her work supporting biodiversity and climate-related causes (via PEOPLE).
Goulding’s honor was included in King Charles III’s 2026 New Year Honours List. Over the years, the English songwriter has become increasingly involved in environmental advocacy. She has served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program and supported conservation efforts through the World Wildlife Fund.
Following the ceremony, Goulding appeared to reflect warmly on the experience on Instagram. She shared a photo of herself smiling with her medal from Windsor Castle alongside the caption, “Extremely cool day x.”
The ceremony marked a full-circle moment for both Goulding and William. Back in April 2011, Goulding performed at the royal wedding reception after William and Kate Middleton tied the knot at Westminster Abbey. During the private evening celebration at Buckingham Palace, Goulding reportedly sang Elton John’s “Your Song” as the couple shared their first dance together.
Since that wedding appearance, Goulding has remained connected to the royal family through both social circles and charity work. She is known to have friendships with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The 39-year-old’s environmental interests have also brought her into William’s orbit in recent years.
In 2022, the singer performed at the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony in Boston, an environmental initiative founded by William. According to PEOPLE’s report, Goulding shared a friendly backstage interaction with both William and Kate during the event.
