The long-running, bitter feud between California Governor Gavin Newsom and Donald Trump is showing no signs of slowing down. Newsom has taken direct aim at Trump, who shared an image of himself walking alongside an AI-generated alien. The 58-year-old governor publicly mocked the 79-year-old president on X, asking netizens if Trump has “lost it?”
Gavin Newsom and Donald Trump’s feud gets fired up again
On May 17, 2026, Trump’s Truth Social account posted a bizarre set of AI-generated images, including one of Donald Trump walking with an alien in chains. California Governor’s press office was quick to re-share Trump’s AI-generated post and writing, “The President of the United States just posted this. Do you think he’s lost it?”
Trump didn’t hold back either and shared yet another image in response, showing a California license plate reading “NEW-SCM” featuring Newsom in a zombie-like state. This added fuel to the online spat between the two political figures. Newsom’s press office shared the jab, stating, “Even a Zombie Newscum still looks healthier than our current President. #PrayersForGrandpa.”
Trump has repeatedly drawn controversy for such posts and has at times deleted them in response to public backlash. However, he and Newsom have both continued to clash for years. In January, Trump labeled Newsom as “‘Lame Duck’ Governor of a Failing State.”
The president wrote on Truth Social that Newsom “made a mockery of himself, and everybody, including his staff, knows it!” and added, “He should get the permits so that people can build their homes destroyed by the fire that he could have prevented if he would have allowed water to flow from the Pacific Northwest. He should finish his monstrously ‘overbudget and behind schedule’ Railroad, from San Francisco to L.A., one of the Greatest Public Disasters in History, and focus on stopping Crime in the streets of California Cities — Then finish out his term, and GO HOME!”
