JD Vance revealed that Donald Trump might restart the military campaign against Iran if the nuclear talks fail. He stated that the president is “locked and loaded” to resume attacks if U.S. objectives are not met. These comments came after Trump wrote on social media that the Gulf states had requested him to pause a military attack on Iran that was reportedly scheduled for Tuesday.
JD Vance talks about Donald Trump and military action in Iran
During a White House press briefing, JD Vance shed light on Donald Trump’s plans if the diplomatic deal between the U.S. and Iran fails. He stated that military action against Iran could resume if both parties fail to reach an agreement, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program. He said, “It takes two to tango. We are not going to have a deal that allows the Iranians to have a nuclear weapon. “So as the president just told me, we’re locked and loaded.”
He stressed that they likely do not intend to go down a violent pathway but added that the president is prepared to do so if the situation ultimately calls for it. However, he said that now Iran is left with just two options: either they agree on the nuclear deal, or they face military action. “We think the Iranians want to make a deal. The president of the United States has asked us to negotiate in good faith. And that’s exactly what we’ve done,” he further elaborated.
Reflecting on why both parties won’t really like plan B of resuming attacks, he added, “There’s an option B, and the option B is that we could restart the military campaign to continue to prosecute the case, to continue to try to achieve America’s objectives. But that’s not what the president wants. And I don’t think it’s what the Iranians want either” (via Fox News).
Earlier, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have asked to pause a scheduled attack on Iran as “serious negotiations are now taking place.” He revealed that he was informed that a deal would be made in the US’s favor and that Iran would not have a nuclear weapon (via BBC).
