Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has been hospitalised with an undisclosed illness and will not participate at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24. The update came from Busch’s family via his official social media account.
Kyle Busch will not participate in events at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend amid his illness
In a statement on X, the family said, “Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”
Following the announcement, Richard Childress Racing said Austin Hill will replace Busch in the weekend’s race. The team via X wrote, Kyle Busch’s health is our utmost priority, and he and his family have the full resources of RCR behind them. Kyle is an integral part of our organization, and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery. His No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him. We’re thankful to Austin Hill for stepping in to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet this weekend. Please keep Kyle and the Busch family in your prayers, and help us respect the family’s privacy at this time.”
Busch, who currently ranks 24th in the Cup Series standings, also had health issues earlier this month. After a race on May 10 at Watkins Glen International, he requested medical attention, “Can somebody try to find Bill Heisel? He’s the Kindred doctor guy. Tell him I need him after the race, please,” Busch said, later adding, “I’m gonna need a shot.” FOX Sports said on the broadcast that Busch was suffering from a “sinus cold.”
According to the team’s website, Busch has 63 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series and is one of only three active multi-time champions. Busch held an all-time NASCAR record with 19 consecutive seasons with a victory from 2004 to 2023.
